Bolivia
Jordan traveled to the Amazon jungle in Bolivia for two weeks in May, 2007, with the non-profit organization Engineers Without Borders. The group volunteered at a technical bording school, 30 mi south of Rurrenabaque, where they provided a larger, cleaner water supply, as well as build a larger water distribution system and build communal showing facilities for the students. A smaller team also traveled to the communities surrounding the school one day and tested their sources of drinking water. The trip was definately something to remember, and many instances seemed like it came straight from the Discovery Channel... from the Banana trees with leaves taller than a basketball goal all the way down to a Bot Fly laying it's egg in Jordan's arm while he was napping from feeling ill.
Chicago
If you love St. Patrick's Day, THE place to be on March 17th is Chi-Town. A fact that few (outside the engineering world) know is that St. Pat is the patron saint of engineering, so it was a natural fit for us to venture to the largest celebration in North America. There are a couple of must-see events taking place on St. Patrick's Day, and several celebration hot-spots that can be found throughout the city. If traveling, be sure to make it to one of the many parades, see the river dyed Green, and at night stroll around Wrigley field and the musical areas of downtown. Chicago is the home of the sky-scraper so enjoy all of the sites, but above all, be sure to bundle up!
Hawaii
Hawaii is truly a tropical paradise. Palm trees, colorful beaches, amazing water, low humidity, balmy temperatures with cool breezes and a light rain in the afternoon. It is also one of the few places in the U.S. where the sun can be seen rising and setting over the water. Every blink of the eye renders a new, picturesque scene. Recommendations on what to see and do in Hawaii are endless and everything is spectacular in its own way. Whether you're looking for a crowded, hip scene or a secluded beach for a little R&R, Hawaii is the place for you.
